Okun Ajwon, 1960-2007
Apay
Okun Ajwon was born in 1959 in Akobo town and was raised there. Apay went
to Akobo elementary school in 1969 and was among first group who went to
Akobo intermediate high school in 1975.
He accepted in Juba commercial high school but preferred to enroll
instead in Malakal Senior High in 1978 and obtained Sudan High School
certificate in 1981. He
taught as an intermediate teacher in Akobo from 1981-1983. He joined prison forces and served
as a Sergeant Major in Malakal and Renk prisons from 1985- 1988.
He
continued to Sudan Prison Academic College in 1988-1990, and graduated as
a Junior Prison Officer. He
was transferred to Malakal again and served there. He was accepted to study in Juba
University, however, couldn’t continue. He was promoted to rank of major
and transferred to Khartoum again and served in Dartoba National Prison in
Soba city as a Senior Officer from 2003-2006. He requested to be
transferred to serve his Autonomous Government of Southern Sudan, Juba
town but was sent to Jonglie State town of Bor where his services were
most needed. He was assigned to assess Akobo, Pibor and Pochalla Counties
prisons situations. He
traveled to those counties and returned with a report [2007] to Bor.
Apay
was a great volunteer in his community.
In 1980 he was very instrumental aide in elections organization and
execution that resulted in the election of Prof. Anade Othow to
parliament.
He was sent to Kenya for in-service training with so many of his
colleagues. Unfortunately, to the chock and surprise of everyone, he
untimely passed away on September 13, 2007. His death news came as a real shock
to family, relatives, colleagues, and friends alike.
His soul was rested in peace in Akobo town where he was born. Apay Okun Ajwon was a loving father, husband, and Uncle. He was very humble and a friendly
person. He will be missed by
all who knew him and all he served.
He left to be mourned by his wife, Sunday,
daughter of the late Philip Okew Wad Alero and five children and
relatives.
